Retail Therapy
If you enjoy shopping, you’ll love the variety of shops downtown the Mount. It is a busy, thriving retail area that hosts many great restaurants, cafes, boutique shops, unique souvenir shops and other outlets that can’t be found in shopping malls.
Nearby Tauranga is another great place to shop and if you do like big shopping malls or for shopping on a rainy day, Bayfair Shopping Centre is located just a five-minute drive away from Capri on Pilot Bay.

Walking Up or Around Mount Maunganui
Highly recommended is the circular 45-minute track around the base of the Mount for keen runners and walkers or for those who just like to take it easy and enjoy the fantastic scenery. Begin only a few hundred metres from your apartments at Pilot Bay or take the entryway from the main Mount Maunganui beach.
There are many restful seating areas to watch ships and boats cruise by, or enjoy the shade of the Pohutukawa trees.
If you are slightly more ambitious, you can take the walk up Mauao. When you make it to the top after a good, strong uphill walk through native bush, you will be rewarded with the most stunning views.
Watch the Cruise Ships
Located at the entrance to one of the largest natural harbours and New Zealand’s most important export harbour, Tauranga and Mount Maunganui are home to the country’s biggest export port, the Port of Tauranga. It is also home to more than 40 cruise ship visits each summer, which dock right outside your Mount Maunganui apartment on the edge of Pilot Bay.
Diving, fishing, boating and much more
From your Pilot Bay accommodation you have easy access to a number of great activities in Tauranga and Mount Maunganui.
Visit the famous Salt Water Hot Pools, swim with the dolphins, go fishing, boating, swimming, diving or kayaking, just to name a few.
Or are you more the type to go for a nice walk, play golf or go shopping? All this and much more can be found in the direct vicinity of your base in Pilot Bay.
